Lucille Ball is a comedic icon. After starring in dozens of movies and spending a decade on air in her own TV series with hubby Desi Arnaz, she achieved the one tangible proof that she was in fact a star: first name household recognition.

Wow. And that was before color TV, cell phones or ipods. The CD hadn’t even been imagined yet. So that was a pretty big deal.

Even if you don’t watch Lucy today in 2010, you still know who that crazy red-head was back in the polka-dot-tea-length dresses. The one with the wild look – Lucy.

Lucy was really a brunette (“mouse” brown, according to her).

Lucy and Desi had 3 miscarriages in 1942, 1949 and 1950, respectively, before they started the I Love Lucy Show in 1951.

Lucy was the first cover picture for TV Guide magazine in 1953. She posed with Desi Jr. (aka “Little Ricky”).

Lucy had 2 children with hubby Desi, named them Desi Jr. and Lucie.

Lucy thought the letters “A” and “R” brought her good luck. Her career changed when she changed her last name to ARnaz. Her character names reflected this. Lucy RicARdo (I Love Lucy), Lucy CARmichael (The Lucy Show), Lucy CARter (Here’s Lucy); and Lucy BARker (Life with Lucy).

Okay, so maybe they weren’t the shortest facts, but they are Lucy… so who cares?!
